On August 11, the CDE released a document in tracked changes format that shows the revisions made to the May 2017 draft of the ESSA State Plan that shows exactly how the State Plan has changed based on stakeholder input and direction from the SBE.

The Governor recently signed ACSA supported AB 170 (O’Donnell) to allow universities to design education majors for prospective teachers. AB 170 will become law on January 1, 2018.

ACSA’s Accountability and Continuous Improvement Task Force, chaired by Ralph Porras, met on August 2 in Sacramento to continue discussions with the State Board of Education, California Department of Education and California Collaborative for Educational Excellence staff on various topics.

The United States Senate is proposing changes to healthcare, including the Medicaid program. Among the many changes in the American Health Care Act, AHCA, is a significant cut to Medicaid, cutting funds for our most vulnerable students. Earlier today, ACSA was contacted by California U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein’s office seeking your help. Senator Feinstein is asking ACSA members to send a letter to her in opposition of the proposed cuts to Medicare.

Just in time to meet the constitutional deadline, on June 15th the California Legislature adopted a state spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year. Governor Brown now has 12 working days to sign the budget.
